Description
A quick and flavorful beef and broccoli stir fry with a savory sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Green onions, chopped for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the Beef: Slice the flank steak into thin strips against the grain for tenderness.
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and brown sugar. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
- Cook the Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add another tablespoon of oil to the same pan. Add minced garlic and ginger, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir-Fry the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, letting it sear before stirring.
- Combine Sauce Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix oyster sauce, rice vinegar, beef broth, and any remaining soy sauce to create the stir fry sauce.
- Add Sauce and Broccoli: Pour the sauce over the nearly cooked beef. Add the cooked broccoli back into the pan and toss to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Season: Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Garnish: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
- Serve Hot: Transfer the stir fry to a serving dish and serve immediately.
Notes
- For best results, use high-quality soy sauce and fresh vegetables.
- Blanching the broccoli for one minute before stir-frying ensures it is tender and vibrant.
- Experiment with adding sesame oil or chili paste for extra flavor.
- Use cooking oils with high smoke points like avocado or grapeseed oil for stir-frying.
- Prepare all ingredients before starting as stir-frying is a quick process.
- Frozen broccoli can be used, but thaw and drain it well.
- Beef is cooked properly when it’s no longer pink and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- This dish is suitable for meal prep and stores well for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
- Marinating the beef adds depth of flavor.
- Chicken, pork, or shrimp can be substituted for beef.
