- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- For the Frosting:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
- Scatter the chopped pecans and chocolate chips over the sugar mixture.
- Starting from a long side, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices. Place the slices cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. Beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until combined. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Spread the frosting over the warm chocolate pecan cinnamon rolls.
