Ingredients

  • 64 ounces apple cider (or unfiltered apple juice)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 orange (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients—apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and sliced orange.
  2. Place all ingredients into a 3-quart slow cooker (Crock Pot) and stir gently.
  3. Set the slow cooker to the low setting and warm for 2 hours.
  4. Remove all whole spices and discard them.
  5. Ladle the mulled cider into mugs and optionally garnish with a fresh orange slice.
  6. For stove method, place all ingredients in a stock pot over medium heat, warm for about 30 minutes, remove spices, and serve warm.
