Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Whisk dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Gradually add to wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into desired shapes.
  6. Place cookies on prepared sheets about 1 inch apart.
  7. Bake 8–10 minutes, until edges are just barely golden.
  8. Cool completely before decorating or storing.
