Description

Create delicious, homemade cheese danishes with this easy recipe. Enjoy flaky pastry filled with a creamy, sweet cheese mixture, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
  • Fresh fruit or jam (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into four rectangles.
  4. Pinch the seams of each rectangle together to form a solid piece of dough.
  5. Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each dough rectangle.
  6. Fold the corners of each rectangle towards the center, over the filling, to create a pocket. Pinch the corners to seal.
  7. Brush the top of each Danish with the beaten egg for a golden brown finish.
  8. Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for 15-20 minutes.
  10. Optionally, dust the cooled pastries with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • For a flakier texture, consider using puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough.
  • You can substitute cream cheese with a vegan alternative and use plant-based dough for a vegan-friendly version.
  • For bite-sized treats, use smaller dough pieces and adjust the filling amount accordingly.
