- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ¾ cup buttermilk, cold
- 1 tablespoon melted butter or honey (optional, for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cold buttermilk and stir gently until dough comes together—do not overmix.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and pat into a rectangle. Fold in thirds, then repeat once or twice more.
- Pat out to 1-inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on sheet, edges touching.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter or honey while warm, if desired. Serve fresh.
