- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup real maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk with 1 teaspoon of sugar, then stir in the yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Mix to form a dough, then knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and roll out to ½ inch thick. Cut with donut cutter and place on parchment-lined tray. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts in batches, 1–2 minutes per side, until golden. Drain on rack with paper towels.
- Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Dip warm donuts into glaze and let set.
