Description
Meatball Parmesan is an incredible dish that takes meatballs to a whole new level of deliciousness. Tender, juicy meatballs are enveloped in rich marinara sauce and topped with melted cheese, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound ground pork (optional)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, roughly 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, until they are cooked through and golden brown.
- While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Once the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them to the saucepan and coat them with the warm marinara sauce.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the sauced meatballs. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining meatballs and cheese.
- Return the assembled Meatball Parmesan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together.
- Top with fresh basil leaves before serving.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute regular breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
- You can use ground turkey as a leaner alternative to beef or pork.
- Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or fontina for a unique twist.
- Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for those who prefer more sauce.
- Pair with garlic bread or a simple side salad.
- Consider serving in sub rolls for a Meatball Parmesan sandwich variation.
