Description

Meatball Parmesan is an incredible dish that takes meatballs to a whole new level of deliciousness. Tender, juicy meatballs are enveloped in rich marinara sauce and topped with melted cheese, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork (optional)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs, roughly 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, until they are cooked through and golden brown.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Once the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them to the saucepan and coat them with the warm marinara sauce.
  7. In a baking dish, layer half of the sauced meatballs. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining meatballs and cheese.
  8. Return the assembled Meatball Parmesan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together.
  10. Top with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute regular breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • You can use ground turkey as a leaner alternative to beef or pork.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or fontina for a unique twist.
  • Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for those who prefer more sauce.
  • Pair with garlic bread or a simple side salad.
  • Consider serving in sub rolls for a Meatball Parmesan sandwich variation.
