Description

This Old-Time Mincemeat Pie recipe is a nostalgic holiday dessert made with apples, raisins, citrus zest, and warm spices tucked into a golden flaky crust. A rich and comforting traditional pie, perfect for festive gatherings and cozy winter nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brandy (optional)
  • 2 9-inch pie crusts (top and bottom)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine apples, raisins, brown sugar, orange zest, juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Cook over medium heat until bubbling and apples begin to soften (about 10 minutes).
  2. Stir in butter and brandy (if using), then let the mixture cool completely.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F. Roll out one crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Pour in the cooled filling and top with the second crust. Trim and crimp the edges, cut slits in the top to vent steam.
  5. Optional: Brush top crust with egg wash for a golden finish.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling bubbles.
  7. Cool before slicing to allow the filling to set properly.
