Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add pure vanilla extract and milk.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are just golden.
- Cool on a wire rack.
Notes
- If you overbake, cookies will become crispier.
- Using double the vanilla extract may result in an overpowering flavor.
- Cookies may taste even better the next day.
- Rainbow sprinkles can be added for decoration.
- Lemon zest can be added for a citrus variation.
- White chocolate chips can be added for a sweeter cookie.
- For best results, cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
- Real vanilla extract is recommended for the best flavor.
- Cookies can be frozen baked or as dough balls.
- If cookies spread too much, ensure butter and dough are not too warm, and avoid overmixing.
- Margarine can be used, but butter provides better flavor.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days.
