- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional toppings: breadcrumbs, parsley, or additional cheese
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, mixing well to combine.
- Remove the pot from heat and add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is creamy.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix until the pasta is evenly coated.
- If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs or additional cheese on top and place the pot over low heat to melt the cheese further.
- Once everything is well combined and heated through, serve hot.
