Description
A cozy, comforting, and incredibly easy sweet potato gratin with creamy, cheesy goodness. This dish is perfect for any occasion, offering a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- Olive oil spray
- 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 1/8-inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 ounce finely grated Parmesan cheese
- 3/4 cup grated Gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray an oven-safe shallow baking dish with olive oil.
- In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced sweet potatoes with melted butter, chopped thyme, kosher salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Arrange the seasoned sweet potato slices in an even layer in the prepared dish.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan and Gruyere cheeses evenly over the top of the sweet potato slices.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender and the cheese is golden brown and bubbly. If the cheese browns too quickly, loosely tent the dish with aluminum foil.
- Let the gratin rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For an even creamier gratin, pour about 1/4 cup of heavy cream or half-and-half over the sweet potatoes before adding the cheese.
- Ensure sweet potato slices are uniform in thickness for even cooking.
- Be mindful of salt as Parmesan cheese is salty.
- You can substitute Gruyere cheese with sharp cheddar, fontina, or Monterey Jack.
- Rosemary or sage can be used as alternative herbs.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- Minced garlic can be added with the sweet potatoes for extra flavor.
