Description
A guide to making classic Yorkshire puddings, a traditional British side dish perfect for roast dinners, known for their fluffy texture and ability to soak up gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil or beef drippings
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, eggs, and salt until smooth. Let the batter rest for 15-30 minutes.
- Put a 12-cup muffin tin or a roasting pan in the oven to heat. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil or beef drippings to each section.
- Heat the oil in the oven for about 5 minutes, until it’s sizzling hot.
- Carefully remove the hot pan from the oven. Quickly pour the batter into each cup, filling it about halfway.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove the Yorkshire puddings from the tin and serve them hot with your favorite roast and gravy.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for better batter consistency and rise.
- Avoid overmixing the batter to prevent dense puddings.
- Do not open the oven door during baking to maintain oven temperature for proper rising.
- Serve Yorkshire puddings immediately after baking for the best texture.
- Leftover puddings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
