Description

These Easy Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy, and aromatic, perfect as a side for any meal or as a savory snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole milk (240g), warm (around 110°F)
  • 3 teaspoons active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar (70g)
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (490g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened at room temperature (85g)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (57g)
  • 23 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 12 tbsp freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the warm milk with the yeast until the yeast dissolves and begins to activate.
  2. To the same bowl, add sugar, flour, egg, salt, and softened butter.
  3. Stir all ingredients with a large spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a clean surface and knead using a push-pull motion with your palms for 15 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled large bowl, cover with cling wrap, and let it rise in a warm, humid spot until it doubles in size, about 90 minutes.
  6. After rising, punch down the dough, turn it on a clean surface, and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a smooth, tight ball using your palms.
  8. Line a 9×13″ baking sheet with parchment paper and place the rolls evenly spaced on it.
  9. Mix egg yolk and milk in a small bowl. Brush this egg wash generously over the rolls.
  10. Let the rolls rise again in a warm spot for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  11. About 20 minutes before baking, preheat the oven to 350°F (conventional).
  12. Brush the rolls with another layer of egg wash after the second rise.
  13. Bake the rolls for 20–22 minutes until they develop a shiny, golden-brown crust.
  14. Meanwhile, melt the salted butter in a saucepan, add finely chopped garlic, and sauté for 1–2 minutes.
  15. Once baked and still hot, generously brush the rolls with the prepared garlic butter.
  16. Serve the rolls warm and enjoy their soft interior and flavorful garlic butter exterior.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot.
  • Avoid adding extra flour while kneading.
  • The rolls can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
