- 1 cup whole milk
- 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk and flour until smooth.
- Continue whisking and cooking until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like texture.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely, covering it with plastic wrap to avoid a skin forming.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
- Gradually add the cooled roux to the butter mixture and beat until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
- Mix in vanilla extract and salt until fully combined.
- Use immediately or refrigerate and re-whip when ready to use.
